The Haiti Mission
Welcome to The Haiti Mission
The Haiti Mission is a non profit 501 c 3 organization founded by David and Constance Paulson in 1985.
April 12-26, David and Connie flew to the D.R., traveled to Barahona, and entered Haiti over the border. Our 5 main objectives were: - Deliver food to Cotin Village. We had raised the $5,000 necessary for the next truckload of food for Cotin.
- Meet with the new Cotin Church Pastor, Waking Toussaint, to discuss our future assistance to the Cotin Church, Cotin School, Sposored Children and Cotin Village Families.
- Find the 2 surviving Dely girls (pastor Pierre’s daughters), and see what we can do to help them. We had learned that Vanessa was in Jacmel (“a quiet place” that would be more conducive to her condition with sickle cell anemia), and Lindsay was in a tent camp with an Aunt in Champs Mars, downtown P-a-P, near the palace.
- Rescue Constance Benoit from the death threats she was experiencing in Haiti, meet with Victor (her father), and bring her across the border to live in the DR under her 1-year visa.
- Secure the downpayment on a piece of land in Barahona, DR, to be our future site of operations. (We stayed at Pastor Wildrido Susana’s home, across the street from the new land.)
Objective #1 had to be altered due to newly enforced regulations at the border between the DR and Haiti. Food trucks were not allowed to cross. Consequently, the food was distributed to the poorest families in 2 of the DR bateys (Batey Altagracia and Batey #7), where thousands of Haitian refugees have been living since the earthquake.
We will be posting our detailed reports and further photographs for objectives 2 - 5 ASAP. 5/25/2010
